As Naomi encourages Ruth to go back to the normal relationship dynamics of their culture we see one verseshift their relationship from superficial to spiritual. Ruth boldly proclaims that she isn’t going back to what isexpected and modeled around her in regards to her relationship with Naomi. Instead, she commits tointentionally living life with her mother-in-law Naomi- Both the good and the bad, the hard and the holy. And it is a moment that all of us must step into within our relationships. As Ruth says this phrase to Naomi “your people are my people and your God is my God” it is not just a feel-good phrase, it is a stake in the ground for Ruth. From here on out her relationships will embrace intentionality, dependence, and purpose. As a church,We are never going back to settling for superficial answers and surface-level relationships. Instead, we will commit to truly- maybe for the first time, depending on one another with love, care, and selflessness.
